The short version
GunBros has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. To run a match the server needs a nickname and whatever you type in chat. It keeps very little, and only for as long as it needs it. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.
Who runs GunBros
GunBros is a private hobby project run by Miguel Luque. For anything about your data, write to info@luquematte.com.
The game runs at play.gunbros.luquematte.com on a server in Nuremberg, Germany. This website runs at gunbros.luquematte.com. The GunBros iPhone app shows the same game as the website, so everything on this page applies to it too.
What the game server handles
-
Your nickname
- Why
- Other players see it in the room, in the match and in chat.
- Kept
- In memory while you are connected, and for about a minute after you leave. It also appears in the list of the last 50 matches (with team, mobile and result), in reports and in the server log (see below).
-
A player id and a reconnect token
- Why
- Random values that let you rejoin your room and seat if your connection drops. They say nothing about who you are.
- Kept
- In the server's memory until about a minute after you disconnect. The token is also saved on your device.
-
Chat messages
- Why
- Delivered to the players in your room, after a word filter masks offensive words.
- Kept
- The room remembers its last 60 lines in memory, so a report can show what was said. They are gone when the room closes, 10 minutes after the last player leaves. Chat is never written to disk unless it is part of a report.
-
Reports
- Why
- When you report a player, the report lets us look into abuse and block players who break the rules.
- Kept
- Stored on the server: both players' nicknames, player ids and IP addresses, and the reported player's last 10 chat lines in that room. Only the newest 200 reports are kept; older ones are deleted automatically.
-
Your IP address
- Why
- Needed to connect at all, and used to limit abuse, such as one address opening too many rooms or connections.
- Kept
- In memory while you play. It is written to the server log only when a connection is refused for abuse, and stored in reports as above.
-
Activity statistics
- Why
- To see how busy the game is and when an update can go out without interrupting a match.
- Kept
- Counts of players online and matches running, per minute for 14 days and per day for 60 days. These are numbers only, with no names. The list of the last 50 matches keeps nicknames, as above.
-
Server log
- Why
- To find and fix problems.
- Kept
- It notes when a player connects, joins a room or reconnects, with the nickname and player id. It is cleared whenever a new version of the game is deployed.
What stays on your device
The game saves a few things in your browser's local storage, or in the iPhone app's own storage: the reconnect token, your nickname, your last picks (mobile, items and map), your sound and music settings, and the players you have muted. Mutes are never sent to the server. There are no cookies. Clearing the site's data in your browser, or deleting the app, removes all of it.
What GunBros does not do
- No accounts, passwords or email sign-up.
- No ads, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking services.
- No selling or sharing of data with advertisers or data brokers.
- No access to your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
- The iPhone app does not track you across other apps or websites.
Chat, mutes and reports
Chat goes through a word filter before anyone sees it. Tap a player's name in chat to mute them (only for you) or to report them. Reports are read by the person who runs GunBros, who may block players who harass others. Please do not share personal details such as your full name, address or phone number in chat.
Services we rely on
-
Hetzner
Hosts the game server in Germany. Everything listed under "What the game server handles" lives there.
-
Cloudflare
Runs this website and the domain's DNS, and so receives the IP address of visitors to this site.
-
Google Fonts
This website loads its pixel font from Google, which receives your IP address when you visit. The game itself loads no fonts or scripts from anyone else.
-
Apple
If you install the iPhone app, Apple's App Store and TestFlight terms and privacy policy cover the download.
Your choices
You can ask what GunBros holds about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to how it is used. Write to info@luquematte.com. As there are no accounts, tell us the nickname you used, roughly when you played, and the room code if you have it, so we can find the right records.
Children
GunBros asks for nothing but a nickname. If you are a parent and think your child shared personal details in chat or in a nickname, write to us and we will delete any report or record that contains them.
Changes to this page
If what GunBros keeps changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
